Pass It On 04:17
Pass It On You know I'm grateful that I knew you for a while And I'm thankful that I can think of you and smile Because you showed me to reach inside to go another mile I can't go back to thank you, I can't repeat what you have done But I can keep the life light shining and Pass It On Pass It On You used to hold me when I cried out in the night And you told me how everything would be all right I can't imagine the dreams you had to sacrifice There's no way to repay you if I gave everything I own But I can keep the life light shining and Pass It On Pass It On Sometimes I wonder if this is more than I can do Afraid to smother the flame I've tried to save for you It's under cover but I pray that a spark will make it through I hope that I can show you how to keep it burning strong So you can keep the life light shining and Pass It On Pass It On Pass It On...

That Thing I Did That thing I did Not exactly what I planned That moment of stupidity was something Even I will never understand Those words I said I really wish I could replace Can't blame you if you're holding it against me Memories aren't so simply erased But I'm not necessarily asking for forgiveness Just a little mercy for the damned That thing I did Even I will never understand That thing I did Must have made you feel bad I can't believe how I left you there I never said I'm sorry but I wish that I had The way you felt I really should have been aware That you were counting on me to be there for you But I acted like I just didn't care Now I don't necessarily expect you to forget it I just hope you'll be a little less mad That thing I did I never said I'm sorry but I wish I had I still remember the day and shake my head every time I do I think I let myself down at least as much as I did you That thing I did Not exactly what I planned That moment of stupidity was something Even I will never understand Now I'm not necessarily asking for forgiveness Just a little mercy for the damned That thing I did I never said I'm sorry but I wish I had That thing I did Even I will never understand

One Million Memories I hear you call through the window I see you splash in the rain I see you holding a flower I hear you calling my name One Million Memories we make, painted in joy and burned in pain All precious fragments that we save, does heaven keep them when we fade? We felt the roll of the ocean Watching the moon in the dark We felt the joy and the wonder Holding a child in our arms One Million Memories we make, painted in joy and burned in pain All precious fragments that we save, will heaven keep them when we fade? I see your face in a picture I see the joy in your eyes All that you felt in that moment Did it follow you to the other side? One Million Memories you made, each one that only you could name Those precious fragments that you saved, did heaven keep them for you? One Million Memories we make, painted in joy and burned in pain All precious fragments that we save, does heaven keep them when we ...

On and On and On I, I know you well, can you tell? It looks to me like you're falling, falling Through. Can't you see you're like me? Can you hear that I'm calling, calling you? On and On On and On And On When we first met it was said That you, you might not make it, make it. It's true. Oh but you, you pulled through. Can't wait to see where you take it, take it to On and On On and On And On As I, I look out there's no doubt That when this day is behind us, behind us That I, I will smile, it's worthwhile Watching you as you find it, find it goes On and On On and On And On On and On On and On On and On And On

Always With Her The woman at the dry cleaner opens an old photograph She keeps taped inside a locket on a keychain Carefully she sets it on a shelf above her jacket High enough that she can feel he's looking down, watching over her While she's working the morning sun is rising Honey-yellow light is spilling warmly through the windows She looks out at the traffic moving slowly through the street People quickly walking on the sidewalk that goes by outside the door She's dreaming, thinking of a place she's never been Leaving footprints in the sand along the ocean Dancing in the sunset as waves roll in to greet her Chasing flocks of seagulls that fly away and scatter to the sky That's above her, stretching out as far as she can see To the glowing clouds that burn on the horizon Reflected in the eyes of someone standing beside her Who reaches in the twilight, and puts a tiny sea shell in her hand Pages of newspaper, old stories no one cares to read Blowing down the empty sidewalk in the evening She hangs on to the dream a moment longer, then she rises Takes the locket from the shelf, puts on her jacket, and then reaches for her cane As she's leaving, she stops outside to look up at the sky No hurry getting home since no one's there to greet her She never feels alone, she knows he's Always With Her Reaching for the locket, instead she finds a seashell and some sand

Don't Need No Ticket On This Train Don't Need No Ticket On This Train I'm moving free as a wheel rollin' down the track And I ain't looking back, keep movin' on Long vein of steel that I ride Is in my blood, like a freight train running through me No one ever gonna make me change Headed for the west coast, I'm just passing through I'll sing a song for you if you can spare a buck or two I'll jump up on that train tonight when it begins to roll I've learned to travel light, I carry everything I own Don't Need No Ticket On This Train I'm moving free as a wheel rollin' down the track And I ain't looking back, keep movin' on Never held a steady job, to me it don't seem right Working for another man for half my life No deadlines or distractions keep me from my occupation Watching every mile roll by to my destination Don't Need No Ticket On This Train I'm moving free as a wheel rollin' down the track And I ain't looking back, keep movin' on Long vein of steel that I ride Is in my blood, like a freight train running through me No one ever gonna make me change Never gonna change Never gonna change Only way of living that I know Never looking back, never worryin’ 'bout tomorrow Gonna ride until my track comes to an end Gonna ride until that final train takes me home again Back home again Back home again Back home again ... yea ... Don't Need No Ticket On This Train I'm moving free as a wheel rollin' down the track And I ain't looking back, keep movin' on Long vein of steel that I ride Is in my blood, like a freight train running through me No one ever gonna make me change Never gonna change Don't Need No Ticket Don't Need No Ticket On This Train (keep movin’ on, keep movin’ on)

If I Could Fly Away If I could fly away from here you know I would Not hesitate I'm going nowhere fast Don't know how much longer I can last If I could grow myself some wings you know I'd fly Away from here I've got to get away Don't think I can stand another day I could sail over the walls and none would be too tall for me I could have both up and down, more than I've got here on the ground If I could jump up off the ground and not come down I'd be so free I don't think I'd come down Until I'd been half a world around If I could fall into the wind and ride away I'd pack my bags And nothing you could say Could keep me here another day I could rise above the gray, I'd never have a rainy day Wherever I might choose to be, I'd set right down and live for free Like a bird I'd take off, leave this senseless world behind Once in the air I'd look down to where I was and wonder why Wonder why If I could fly away from here you know I would Not hesitate I'm going nowhere fast Don't know how much longer I can last If I could grow myself some wings you know I'd fly Away from here And nothing you could say Could keep me here another day

All That I Can Do Time is tightly tied around and turning Bridges to the past behind me burning Never knowing where the thread is going Time is tightly tied around and turning Lessons as I spin this life I’m learning Faith and reason rising and then seizing Even when I try All That I Can Do Keep from holding too tight As it keeps passing through Time is tightly tied around and turning Sewing in the sacrifice I’m earning On my leaving it continues weaving Even when I try All That I Can Do Keep from holding too tight While it keeps passing through All That I Can Do Keep it passing through All That I Can Do Keep it passing through All That I Can Do Keep it passing through

I Wish I Was Water Strong and solid Rooted in the ground Nothing moves me No one will tear me down All around me Through me, and beneath Rivers flowing To the place they seek Oh, I Wish I Was Water Oh, I Wish I Was Water Hard and heavy Beaten down and worn Here forever Prisoner of form Wash around me Seep into my pores And dissolve me Make me free once more Oh, I Wish I Was Water Oh, I Wish I Was Water

Running With Knives I wish I could go back to when friendship was honest And summer divided the years of our lives Tired of the sandbox we found our excitement Playing with matches And Running With Knives As we grew older rebellion expanded To Saturday night out on fast crazy drives Sharing a bottle, cigarettes and secrets We were playing with matches And Running With Knives It was so long ago, like another life lived Now we all have houses, spouses, and kids But it’s good for a smile to sometimes remember I lecture my son to refrain from the wreckless And dangerous things on which youth seem to thrive He’d catch hell if I caught him, but scars on his fingers Come from playing with matches And Running With Knives I won’t pretend to not know where I’m headed At the end I don’t want any teary goodbye When my light starts to fade let me lie in defiance Playing with matches And Running With Knives Playing with matches Playing with matches Playing with matches Playing with matches Playing with matches and Running With Knives

Guide You Home When you feel like you've lost your way And you're far from home When you've wandered too far astray And find you're all alone When you feel you've lost direction And your bearing needs correction Reach out for a connection And I'll try to Guide You Home When your blue skies have turned to gray And the rain comes down When the river has swept you away And you're about to drown When your tears become an ocean T ossed about by your emotion Look up from your commotion And I'll try to Guide You Home Guide You Home, like a steady shining light Guide You Home, like a beacon in the night And no matter how far you may choose roam I'll be ready with a sign to help you find your way back home When you've run out of things to say And the well runs dry When all of the songs that you play Only make you cry When your heart-felt orchestration Only leads to your frustration Let me be your inspiration And I'll try to Guide You Home Guide You Home, like a steady shining light Guide You Home, like a beacon in the night And no matter how far you might choose roam I'll be ready with a sign to help you find your way back home When you feel you've lost direction And your bearing needs correction Reach out for a connection And I'll try to Guide You Home I'll be ready with a sign to help you find your way back home

about

Many of the songs on “One Million Memories” were originally written during songwriting workshops I attended at the Old Town School. It was also through these workshops that I met the instructor, Steve Dawson, who recorded, played on, and did most of the production work for the album.
